Joe’s life has been shaped by the 45th Ward. He and his six siblings attended St. Mary of the Woods grade school, where Joe and his wife remain active parishioners to this day. Joe then attended Loyola Academy for high school where he was a member of the National Junior Honors Society and was Captain of the Football and Baseball teams. Joe was inducted into the Loyola Academy Sports Hall of Fame in 2018. Joe was recruited to attend Columbia University in New York City where he earned a degree in History and earned All-Ivy League Honors at Linebacker his senior year. Following college Joe came home and worked as a Teacher before starting law school at the John Marshall Law School (now UIC Law) where Joe was the proud recipient of the Lucy Sprague Scholarship Award and the Elmer Kissane Scholarship Award. Growing up a few short blocks from Wildwood Park, Joe participated in a number of activities through the Chicago Park District. Joe now coaches his children’s teams which participate in many of the same programs and at the same parks. The people and institutions of the 45th Ward continue to influence every element of Joe’s life, and he’s proud to serve as their Committeeperson.
After earning his law degree and passing the Illinois Bar Exam, Joe joined the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office (CCSAO). He was assigned to the Criminal Appeals Bureau, Narcotics Bureau, and Gang Crimes Unit during his seven (7) years with the CCSAO, during which he worked with many incredible members of Chicago’s law enforcement community. Joe gained trial experience as part of a team in the Gang Crimes Unit assigned with combating gun trafficking and prosecuting gang-related gun crimes. Working for the CCSAO has granted Joe with unique insights on Chicago’s gun violence issues, and he’s committed to continuing to improve the quality of life for all Chicago residents.

Joe also proudly serves as a Major in the United States Air Force JAG Corps, where he is currently assigned as the Area Defense Counsel for the Wisconsin Air National Guard. Joe previously served in the Illinois Air National Guard for many years before transferring to the Wisconsin Air National Guard. Joe currently works as a principal attorney at the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District (MWRD) of Greater Chicago, where he represents and defends the MWRD on a variety of legal issues.
Joe has been a volunteer coach at numerous schools, including Gordon Tech High School (now DePaul Academy) and St. Mary of the Woods. Joe previously served as the president of the Holy Name Society at St. Mary of the Wood’s Parish, and currently serves as the Chair of the Parish Pastoral Council. Joe is an Officer in American Legion Post 541 and also serves on the Board of the Irish Fellowship Club of Chicago. Joe serves on the Board of the Edgebrook Sauganash Athletic Association (ESAA) and previously served as the Commissioner of the Storm Girls Youth Softball Program. Joe is involved with many not-for-profits in the area including the DannyDid Foundation, the 41 & 9 Foundation, Bank the Blue Foundation and The Tripp Healy Foundation. Joe is also a member of the Steering Committee for the Loyola Academy Bar Association.

Joe is a proud Chicagoan who has stood for leadership and community since his days growing up in the 45th Ward. He and his wife Jenny have five daughters and live in Chicago’s Wildwood neighborhood. Having spent his entire career in public service, he is excited for this opportunity to continue to serve his community as the 45th Ward Democratic Committeeperson.
